Sold Out: Affordable Housing at Risk

In collaboration with the Minnesota Housing Partnership, TPT Partnerships produced “Sold Out: Affordable Housing at Risk,” a documentary that examines the shrinking supply of affordable housing in Minnesota through the experiences of displaced tenants and concerned experts. They also produced a number of digital shorts and a discussion guide to aid in meaningful engagement with the project.

Louisiana Young Heroes Awards

The LPB Louisiana Young Hero Awards annually honors students in grades 7-12 who excel in the classroom, serve their local communities and demonstrate great personal courage in overcoming adversity.

The Sweater Sessions

In celebration of this year’s 50th anniversary of the classic TV series Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, we reached out to the local music community and had various performers pay tribute to the iconic Fred Rogers theme song “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”

Splash N Bubbles Gilley Pool Event

Hosted a community pool party with a get in free with a book donation for children 12 and under. The theme was Splash N Bubbles PBS Kids Characters. The books were given back to the community library. Activities were provided, and we put on a movie for families wanting to get out of the sun.

Mosaic Oklahoma: Pawhuska

OETA Foundation envisioned and produced a series of 30-minute documentaries, entitled “Mosaic Oklahoma,” which celebrate the communities, people, and landmarks that epitomize Oklahoma’s unique culture. The pilot episode, filmed in the northeastern Oklahoma town of Pawhuska (population 3,500), explored the history and heritage of the Osage Nation, which is headquartered there, and the revitalization of the downtown, where the Food Network’s “Pioneer Woman,” Ree Drummond, has her popular deli, bakery, store, and hotel.

The 413Families community-based texting program for families with young children offers information about educational tips and fun things to do – most of it FREE. With the goal of sending 2-3 texts per week, organizations submit messages that inform and engage families about local events, asking parents to submit photos or respond to giveaway opportunities.

Dream Land: Little Rock’s West 9th Street Initiative

The Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) produced an Emmy-winning documentary on the rise and fall of Little Rock, Arkansas’s successful yet segregated African-American business district (1940-50’s), using a historic building in the district known as the Dreamland Ballroom as a focal point. AETN has built dozens of community partnerships; held educational screenings, panels discussions, and workshops; and conducted riveting community dialogues on diversity and race relations throughout 2018 that will undoubtedly continue.

Aging Matters is NPT’s landmark original series focused on exploring how an aging US demographic will impact life in our community and communities across the nation.

Positively Kansas

Positively Kansas, from KPTS Channel 8, takes viewers to visit the people, places, and things that make Kansas unique and special. The series covers history, the arts, culture, the performing arts, politics, literature, and more woven together by visits to historical sites. Every story is a way to connect different communities across the state, to understand and find meaning in the lives and work of Kansas residents, and to bring the people of Kansas together.

PBS Charlotte 3-D Project: Dreamers, Doers, Destiny (2018 Finalist)

Via a four-year community engagement campaign that began in fall 2017, WTVI PBS Charlotte partnered with local workforce-related organizations to roll out a three-part media project (Dreamers, Doers, Destiny) designed to empower youth to capitalize on their dreams. The target goal is to engage with and help educate 600 local public high school students in career pathways and leadership training, leading to education completion and lasting success in the workforce.

The Fix: Examining Rhode Island’s Opioid Epidemic

Rhode Island has one of the highest opioid overdose death rates in the country and over the last 18 – 24 months local thoughts leaders, experts in Opioid Use Disorder, as well as scientists, ED doctors, and politicians have formed a task force to address this issue. Due to the hard work of so many, R.I. has emerged as a leader in combating the epidemic. In a short period of time, R.I. went from having the 5th highest overdose rate in the country to the 10th. The Fix shines a light on the problem but also on the amazing work being done in R.I..

Reading Marathon

KUED hosts a Reading Marathon Kickoff in conjunction with the Salt Lake Public Library during the STEM Festival. The kickoff party invites families to pick up a Reading Log, receive free books, meet favorite PBS Kids characters and participate in engaging Science, Technology, Engineering and Math activities. In an effort to reach a wide geographic population, KUED utilizes partnering organizations to distribute Reading Marathon information.

Working Capital

“Working Capital” is a business show about entrepreneurism, innovation and creative management techniques. Topeka is the Capital of Kansas, so the title is a play-on-words. KTWU serves 39 counties in northeast Kansas including western Missouri; this gives the show a broad spectrum of businesses, corporations and individuals to profile on the show. The show is thirty minutes and typically profiles two business entrepreneurs during each show.

Food Traditions

A collaborative project between WPT and WPR, Food Traditions explores expressions of identity through food. From the Mississippi River to lake Michigan, the Apostle Islands to Beloit, we learn about ingredients Wisconsinites choose to grow, collect, use and leave out, how they prepare a dish, whom they share it with and how these traditions construct their sense of identity. This project explores underrepresented identities, touching on topics like family tradition, food sovereignty, assimilation, integration, community building, health, immigration and sustainability. With popular shows like Wisconsin Foodie and Around the Farm Table and with the recent success of the Great Wisconsin Baking Challenge, food has become part of the WPT brand. This project is leveraging our digital community and asking them to engage with us around food in a more comprehensive way.

Modern Gardener

Modern Gardener is a digital series produced by KUED that celebrates the people, organizations and communities committed to helping gardeners in the states unique region.

Breaking Heroin’s Grip: Road to Recovery

The continuing opioid crisis in Maryland prompted Maryland Public Television to develop an awareness and education initiative in early 2017. “Addiction & Recovery” is a multi-month project in which MPT and its partners sought to honestly portray the dark side of addiction, while also providing hope, encouragement, and information for those impacted by opioid use. The effort culminated in the broadcast of “Breaking Heroin’s Grip: Road to Recovery” in 2017.
