“Houston after Harvey” is a multi-platform content initiative from Houston Public Media that examines the impact of the Texas Gulf Coast’s most severe storms through personal stories, intimate video interviews, and in-depth news coverage. Content produced for the project included multiple podcasts, video series, and television and radio specials.

WCVE’s Instagram shares the stories of people in our community who entertain, educate and inspire through stunning portrait photography and emotionally driven interviews.

Where I Come From

KPBS set out to hear and document the stories of diverse people in five communities within San Diego County and the Imperial Valley and find out how factors like ethnicity and income have shaped their identities. “Where I Come From” is the weekly social media video series that highlights these stories.

Modern Gardener is a digital series produced by KUED that celebrates the people, organizations and communities committed to helping gardeners in the states unique region.

Verve

VERVE is KUED’s online series exploring creativity. Now in its sixth season, the series explores local people, creative passion, innovations and imagination. 

KVIE Art Auction

The KVIE Art Auction is an annual, live-televised fundraising event. Over 250 pieces of artwork are donated by artists throughout the greater Sacramento region, curated from hundreds of submissions. Local artists receive print, on-air and web recognition and several report gaining commissions as a result of the exposure.

Out North: MNLGBTQ History

Twin Cities PBS’s “Out North: MNLGBTQ History” was designed to explore the untold histories of Minnesota’s LGBTQ pioneers, legislators, change makers, and resistors. Starting as one idea from one donor, it grew organically into a comprehensive initiative comprising one two-hour film, more than seven shorts, and more than 45 community events. It combined local community partnerships, screenings, intergenerational conversations, and watch parties — all in response to appetite and demand for engagement around these histories.

Beyond the Ballot

With BTB, WPR is turning our traditional reporting process on its head. Instead of reporters and editors deciding what’s important to cover this election season, we’re asking hundreds of people what they think.

Be Well Health Network

In order to expand the reach and impact  of its health content to low-income and underserved audiences, ideastream partnered with a Federally Qualified Health Center to distribute ideastream’s locally-produced three-hour healh video compilation throughout the Center’s five clinics. The initiative is called the Be Well Health Network.

The Fix: Examining Rhode Island’s Opioid Epidemic

Rhode Island has one of the highest opioid overdose death rates in the country and over the last 18 – 24 months local thoughts leaders, experts in Opioid Use Disorder, as well as scientists, ED doctors, and politicians have formed a task force to address this issue. Due to the hard work of so many, R.I. has emerged as a leader in combating the epidemic. In a short period of time, R.I. went from having the 5th highest overdose rate in the country to the 10th. The Fix shines a light on the problem but also on the amazing work being done in R.I..

Community Conversations with Indie Lens Pop Ups

NET partnered with the University of Nebraska Lincoln campus and key departments across campus to set up screenings of independent films and discussions focused to promote dialogue and understanding between diverse groups.

Breaking Heroin’s Grip: Road to Recovery

The continuing opioid crisis in Maryland prompted Maryland Public Television to develop an awareness and education initiative in early 2017. “Addiction & Recovery” is a multi-month project in which MPT and its partners sought to honestly portray the dark side of addiction, while also providing hope, encouragement, and information for those impacted by opioid use. The effort culminated in the broadcast of “Breaking Heroin’s Grip: Road to Recovery” in 2017.

North Country Public Radio In Your Town (North Country At Work) (2018 Finalist)

North Country at Work (NC@W) has been collecting photographs and audio content that tell historic and contemporary stories of people at work, town by town, across the vast rural geography of New York State served by North Country Public Radio. NC@W is now returning to the featured towns, setting up photo exhibits, and hosting work-related story slams, which are recorded and added to the NC@W permanent archive.

What Listening Looks Like

“What Listening Looks Like” asked people to show us where they listen to our radio services and had them take a selfie and send it to us to be shared on our website. We had an underwriter who would donate $5 for every photo submitted.

The Next Louisville

In 2013, Louisville Public Media launched The Next Louisville, a reporting initiative with the goal of providing ongoing access to in-depth journalism surrounding an important topic in our community and to invite grassroots participation to find creative solutions to community challenges. We select a new topic for each year-long cycle. Now in our third year we have explored race, ethnicity and culture, and how they intersect with the news and community affairs. Previous topics have included education and health.

Boundary Stones Local History Blog

WETA launched Boundary Stones Local History Blog in 2012 to dig up interesting stories from the community past. To date, over 400 articles have been posted on a variety of DC-area history topics including politics, music, pop culture, crime, sports, and weather. Pieces are promoted via the station’s Facebook and Twitter accounts where they are routinely among the most popular. The station also has a dedicated Boundary Stones Twitter account to discuss the articles and engage around local history topics.

Poetry Sunday

At Poetry Sunday, local poets reads a poem in a cutaway to “localize” and serve a deeply-committed following.
