KBBI AM 890 is hosted an on-air remote ‘Concert on YOUR Lawn’ Fundraiser – a socially distant homage to our Concert On The Lawn days and an opportunity for us to celebrate our amazing listener-supporters. Throughout the two days, listeners heard the regular shows they love as well as live music, KBBI testimonies and giveaways all culminating in the Concert on Your Lawn event with local musicians broadcasting from their homes.
Valley Public Radio launches a new broadcast series and podcast dedicated to rediscovering the short stories of Pulitzer Prize winning author and Fresno native William Saroyan. The program features acclaimed authors reading the works and discussing their relevance to our lives in the COVID-19 era.
WCMU is re-imagining local journalism by creating partnerships with rural newspapers to produce content and at the same time train J students in broadcast, print and internet story telling. Fearing an information gap in North Carolina’s underserved communities facing an unprecedented pandemic, Carolina Public Press (CPP) launched the Emergency News Team (ENT) immediately after COVID-19 struck the state. The initiative was a collaborative, multifaceted, multilingual program to help all North Carolinians — especially underserved rural residents — access reliable and timely COVID-19 news and information.
To salvage a 40-year community tradition in the midst of Covid-19, WJCT worked across the entire organization to create a multi-platform engaging and immersive Jazz Festival Weekend experience for its community.
Speaking Grief is a multiplatform initiative aimed at creating a more grief-aware society. It validates grief as a normal, healthy part of the human experience, addresses the importance of support from friends and family and offers guidance on how to show up for people in their darkest moments.
WLRH promotes our community’s local musicians and vibrant performing arts scene through two parallel efforts. Local Aliens is a long running compilation CD series of all-local musicians produced by WLRH and given away to the community for free; while Valley Sounds is an all-local weekly broadcast music show and award-winning podcast featuring original music of all genres created and performed in the Tennessee Valley.
WDET listeners read a book together and the station leads a community discussion about the challenging societal issues we all face. The selected book sets up these conversations and this year we are reading and discussing Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison.
WSHU Public Radio collaborates with undergraduate journalism students to craft local interest stories for on-air broadcast. This initiative offers a replicable framework for radio stations to partner with colleges or universities in a win/win partnership that promotes much needed local news and bolsters community pride showcasing hyper-local stories while giving students experiential learning opportunities and exposing them to the professional journalism process.
WYEP’s Reimagination project connects teen musicians with professional mentors to record and produce their own original music. Since 2013, the program has engaged with more than 220 area teen musicians, several of whom became Grammy and Emmy award winners.
Democracy & Me is an Educational Outreach program developed and managed by Cincinnati Public Radio (dba WVXU). The program was launched in 2015 with the goal of helping schools teach students about our government, their responsibilities as citizens and the importance of journalism in our democracy.
KZMU’s annual live, original radio plays are a precious architectural space, constructed sonically, to be used as an imaginative stage to explore both the lore and realities of the rural, desert communities of our listeners. Using the broadcast medium, and building on the radio theater tradition that began in the 1930’s, KZMU’s performances create a platform for local directors, musicians, voice actors, foley artists, stage hands and sound and lighting technicians.
“The ARTery 25: Millennials of Color Impacting Boston Arts and Culture” is a week-long series that engaged the Boston region’s artists, arts organization and arts audiences, pairing multimedia editorial content with live programming to reach more than 400,000 people in its celebration of creative equity.
The COVID-19 Brief is a weekly live, call-in show with the Homer Unified Command-The City of Homer, South Peninsula Hospital, AK Dept of Public Health and Kenai Peninsula Borough School District to update the community on the local covid-19 situation, allow listeners to call in and ask questions and allow community leaders and healthcare professionals to disseminate vital information to the community.
