“Hosting All Things Considered helped me find my voice, but I have never considered the host chair a tenured position and there is still much to learn,” Cornish said in a note to staff. “It’s time for me to try my hand at new journalism projects and embark on new adventures. It’s been an honor to serve our listeners and a pleasure to work alongside all of you – reporters, producers, engineers, staff, member stations and friends.”

On Twitter, she said she’s “joining many of you in ‘The Great Resignation.’” She went on to say that leaving NPR and ATC is a “risk” but that she looks forward to “new opportunities and new ways to tell stories. and to keep finding ways to make space and center the voices of those who have been traditionally left out! Our conversation isn’t over.”

Cornish joined NPR in 2005 as a reporter on its National Desk, covering stories such as the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. She joined the politics team in 2008 and covered that year’s presidential race and later Capitol Hill. She went on to host Weekend Edition in 2011 and began hosting ATC in 2012.

Cornish has worked in public radio for more than 20 years. Prior to joining NPR, she was a reporter at WBUR in Boston. She also worked as a reporter for the Associated Press.

“Audie’s skills and presence are distinctive. Her reporting is incisive and human,” said VP for News Programming Sarah Gilbert and SVP for News and Editorial Director Nancy Barnes in a note to staff. “Whether in the field reporting on natural disasters, following presidential candidates and historic moments in our democracy, or landing illuminating high-profile interviews, Audie has brought listeners a rich array of topics, voices, and perspectives from across the spectrum of American life.”

Cornish will join a list of top NPR talents who have left the network in recent months, including hosts Noel King and Lulu Garcia-Navarro.
