NEA grants boost public media groups, filmmakers

It’s the first of two major grant announcements from the federal program for fiscal year 2018.
“Ending federal support for the NEA, NEH, or CPB would be a radical, unprecedented action,” the letter said.
Some 2,200 tapes of more than 800 artist interviews will be digitized and cataloged.
The grants are the second round this fiscal year, bringing the NEA’s total support to $103.4 million.
Seven organizations associated with public media are among 1,116 grantees announced Tuesday by the National Endowment for the Arts for funding that totals just over $29 million.
The federal government awarded funds to transmedia projects as well as traditional broadcast programs.
Alabama Public Television, WHYY, Transom.org and New York Public Radio are among the grantees.
The House Appropriations Committee has proposed cutting funding to the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities by 49 percent for fiscal year 2014.
