With its latest round of funding, CPB has invested $4.9 million in its state government initiative.
The first CFO and chief content officer for the Virginia Foundation for Public Media and Commonwealth Public Broadcasting Corp. will begin work next month.
The partnership, initiated last fall, extends CP’s educational initiative for high school students and veterans into a third city and the first library location.
The hire ends a period of transition for AIR, which started when former CEO Sue Schardt abruptly left in August 2018.
“We’ll really focus on … a series of topics that are, we think, important to public radio music stations of all formats,” said NPR’s Mike Riksen.
“As the public media landscape changes, PRNDI must grow and change to be an organization that represents and advocates for journalists across public media.”
Five-year-old Azka Sharief “wanted to write a mystery story and read it as a podcast,” says WBEZ producer Kevin Dawson. “Of course we were more than happy to help.”
WCBU will retain its frequency, format and call letters.
This year’s TechCon presented the first real-world ATSC 3.0 experiences from several early adopters.
“Working with Jack was exhilarating and incredibly gratifying,” said Amy Shaw, Nine Network acting president.
The program has grown to 30 participating libraries since 2014, with an additional 10 launching this year through West Virginia Public Broadcasting.
