The station will lease space from Chappelle, a major WYSO supporter, who bought the building last year and is renovating it to meet the station’s needs.
Listeners have been tuning in more frequently and listening longer. In some markets, they’re hearing new voices and more beats in the music mix.
With a signal boost and rebranding of WFOS as the Time Machine Radio Network, WHRO aims to reach a new audience of listeners and future donors. “There’s nothing else like it on the air,” said CEO Bert Schmidt.
“It’s BIPOC filmmakers telling stories from their own communities,” said Nick Price, series producer with Reel South. “It’s not people who are from outside the South coming in and telling what they conceive of the South.”
The community radio station in Charlottesville, Va., will turn the show “Jazz at 100” into a curriculum for high school and early college students.
