NPR shortens ‘It’s Been a Minute’ broadcast, adds ‘Wild Card’

NPR has halved the broadcast time of It’s Been a Minute and combined it with Wild Card with Rachel Martin.

The combined show debuted Friday with the hour evenly divided between the two shows. The program airs on more than 370 stations, according to NPR.

NPR did not reduce the staff of It’s Been a Minute, which will continue to publish three podcasts weekly, according to an NPR spokesperson.

“Over the last year, NPR has asked for station feedback on all of our program offerings and one request was clear: more joy and more wonder,” Yolanda Sangweni, NPR’s VP of culture programming, said in a press release. “This pairing delivers on both. We hope this robust combination will offer a majority of NPR stations new cultural programming from two of our most entertaining shows.”

It’s Been a Minute has been airing on stations as an hourlong program since 2017 after debuting as a podcast with host Sam Sanders. Brittany Luse, who now hosts the show, took over in 2022 after Sanders left that same year.

Former Morning Edition host Rachel Martin launched Wild Card last year. The show, which started as a podcast, puts a twist on typical interviews by having guests pick questions from a deck of cards.
