“Betsy brings great leadership and enthusiasm to Smoky Hills PBS,” said Board Chair Joe Robben in a news release. “Myself, as well as the other board members, feel that Betsy will move us forward and provide for a successful future.”

Schwien succeeds Travis Hendryx, who became GM in June and resigned in November. Hendryx did not disclose a reason for leaving, according to a spokesperson.

Schwien will be the station’s third permanent GM in two years. Larry Calvery left the role in 2020.

Schwien joined the station last year as director of membership engagement. Before Smoky Hills PBS, she worked for Ascension, a health-care company, as an activity director and administrator and later as CEO. She was also an outreach coordinator for Americare.

“I am both honored and blessed to be working for such an incredible organization,” Schwien said in a news release. “I am excited for our future, stay tuned for more to come from Smoky Hills PBS!”
