Mary Mazur has been named president and GM of Vegas PBS.
Mazur will replace Tom Axtell, who announced in August that he would retire. Axtell has led the station since 1994.
“Mary is a power-house leader with extensive experience in the country’s largest television markets. She will take Vegas PBS to new heights guiding program development and production, as well as providing strategic leadership in fundraising and new technology needs,” Axtell said in a news release.
Mazur most recently worked as GM of Arizona PBS, a position she left earlier this year. She helped lead local news programs like Arizona Horizon and Cronkite News.
Before her time with Arizona PBS, Mazur was an EVP, COO and chief content officer for KCETLink Media Group in Burbank, Calif. She was also SVP of programming and production for Cosgrove Meurer Productions and Patchett Kaufman Entertainment, a VP for CBS and a director of drama development for NBC.
“I am honored to join Vegas PBS and look forward to working with this dedicated and passionate team,” Mazur said in the release. “I have long admired Tom Axtell for his leadership, entrepreneurial creativity, and the countless accomplishments he has achieved at Vegas PBS which extend to the national public media arena. I can only hope to build on the legacy that has made Vegas PBS a key community partner and service provider in Southern Nevada for more than 50 years.”
