More than 25 New York Public Radio employees will join the bargaining unit of station staff represented by SAG-AFTRA.

NYPR announced Monday that it has voluntarily recognized the employees, including reporters for Gothamist, the digital news site NYPR acquired last year. The new unit made its request to unionize in November.

About 175 NYPR employees are in the SAG-AFTRA unit, which also grew in August when the station recognized temporary and per diem workers. SAG-AFTRA has represented NYPR employees since 2000.

“We’re excited to extend the New York Public Radio family and welcome the new members to our union,” said SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris. “In this era of technological change, it is imperative that everyone has a voice at the table.”
