The Public Radio Exchange has partnered with a hotel in Cambridge, Mass., to provide guests with curated podcast playlists to enjoy during their stay.
PRX created a channel for Freepoint Hotel in its RadioPublic app that includes playlists around themes that might appeal to travelers, with episodes about fitness, food, relaxation and Boston.
The partnership is based not on revenue or licensing but “co-marketing,” Jake Shapiro, CEO of RadioPublic, told Current. “We both see it as a proof-of-concept with exciting potential to roll out more widely as a way to engage new audiences and create unique experiences at new locales,” he said.
The hotel also commissioned an episode of The Memory Palace, a podcast in PRX’s Radiotopia network, focused on the history of its neighborhood.
“RadioPublic’s ability to create custom playlists and curated listening experiences mirrors our efforts to create unique, authentic and memorable moments for guests, both within and outside of the sonic space,” said David McCaslin, executive vice president of the hotel’s management company, in a PRX post about the partnership.
