NPR’s website draws record audience during first presidential debate

The most-watched presidential debate in U.S. history wasn’t just a boon for television.

NPR’s website enjoyed its largest single-day audience ever Monday, thanks in part to a page that provided live fact-checking during the debate, the network said Tuesday.

More than 5 million users visited Monday. By Tuesday afternoon, the fact-checking page had received more than 7.4 million pageviews from 6 million users. From June to August, NPR’s website averaged 33.2 million users each month, according to the network.

The fact-checking page also peaked at 294,000 simultaneous users as measured by audience-tracking platform Chartbeat, making it among the most-viewed pages across sites of Chartbeat customers.

Ninety NPR stations embedded a module of the feature on their websites. The network is still working on estimating traffic to those sites, according to a spokesperson. NPR does not yet know how many people listened to the network’s live audio stream of the debate.

    Perhaps…but NPR’s audience is DOWN since they banned comments.
    I’m assuming Alexa is an accurate reflection of reality. Can’t say for sure.

    Also of interest is the fact 25% of the audience is non US?
