Reporter Austin Fuller to leave Current

Austin Fuller, a reporter for Current since 2024, will leave the publication Friday.

Fuller joined Current with a focus on public media financing and audience development. He later began covering CPB, Congress and initiatives to bolster journalism.
Last year, he followed the rescission of federal funding and its effect on stations and system initiatives such as interconnection and music licensing.
“After a decade reporting for daily newspapers, I’m grateful to Current and the sources I worked with for helping me deepen my understanding of public media over the past two years,” Fuller said. “I’m proud of my reporting on CPB, including covering the rescission and the nonprofit’s subsequent wind-down. I also enjoyed the opportunity to tell stories showcasing creativity across the country, from Native American filmmakers making climate-focused short films to classical music stations pushing the boundaries of the genre.”
“Reporting on the CPB rescission was an all-hands-on-deck effort,” said Karen Everhart, managing editor and interim executive director. “Austin covered the push to defund public media from the beginning of the second Trump administration through Congress, the courts and CPB’s final grants. He also made valuable contributions with his financial reporting and features on engagement strategies at music stations.”
Prior to joining Current, Fuller covered business news for the Orlando Sentinel.
