She begins in the role Aug. 19.

COO Stacey Rosenberry has been serving as interim CEO following the retirement of founding CEO Alan Chartock in May 2023.

“Coming to WAMC, with its strong staff, powerful programming, and dedicated listeners and members, is an incredible opportunity to use all my skills and experiences to continue to build, grow, and strengthen this amazing organization,” Gilbert said in a press release.

Gilbert was most recently president and CCO at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. But she’s a familiar face in public media.

She has spent time in leadership positions at NPR, the BBC and American Public Media. At NPR, she was most recently VP for news programming. She created and launched the Up First podcast as Morning Edition EP. She also served as managing editor of Marketplace at APM.

She served in numerous roles for the BBC, including as EP of Americana.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sarah to the helm of this incredible organization,” said Dorothy Reynolds, chair of the station’s board, in the release. “This has been an intense and deliberative process.”

WAMC hired executive search firm Isaacson, Miller for the search.
