Miquel Calçada resigned from his position as GM of Pacifica’s KPFK in Los Angeles this week.
Calçada began his tenure in July 2021 after another seven-month stint at KOPN in Columbia, Mo. He moved to the U.S. in 2018 and is a native of Spain, where he worked in public radio and production in Barcelona.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the station, and I am incredibly grateful to have met each of you. While I’m excited about the new opportunity ahead of me, leaving KPFK is definitely bittersweet,” he said in an email to colleagues obtained by Current. “I have no doubt our station will follow, step by step, the path to success again, combining the values Lewis Hill inspired, along with the enduring functions of any radio broadcasting: to inform, entertain, and accompany.”
Calçada’s departure marks the latest leadership change within the Pacifica Foundation and its stations. In January, the organization named Stephanie D. Wells, a former executive director of Friends of the EXPO Center in Los Angeles, as its new executive director.
That “man” killed a 21+ year successful show at KOPN because he didn’t like rock music. Good riddance. Hope he finds a job at Burger King, where he belongs.
