Baltimore City Community College, the station’s licensee, announced Miles’ appointment Thursday. He replaces Joe Hutchins, who retired from the classical station in December 2019.

“Richard’s extensive experience in public radio will be an asset to WBJC and its strong 70 year history,” BCCC President Debra McCurdy said in a press release. “We are thrilled Richard is joining WBJC and look forward to his leadership and building on the strong foundation that already exists.”

Miles was most recently GM at WBAA in West Lafayette, Ind., and has more than 30 years of experience in public radio. He has served on the board of Public Radio in Mid America and was the chair of the Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations.

“I am excited to join the BCCC family and be able to work in a community that supports such a wide range of great public media,” Miles said in the release. “I am also looking forward to helping the WBJC team build on the strong foundation and reputation the station enjoys throughout the region.”

Miles begins in the role Aug. 2.
