NPR has promoted Chris Nelson to VP of technology operations effective immediately, the network announced Friday.
NPR’s former VP of technology operations, Marty Garrison, retired earlier this month.
Nelson joined NPR in 2000 as an audio engineer and was most recently the network’s managing director of technology strategy and audio engineering.
During his time at NPR, Nelson has “focused considerable energy on building talented teams to design, deploy, engineer, and support the complex technology solutions and infrastructure at the operational heart of NPR’s editorial vision and signature sound,” said NPR President of Operations Loren Mayor in a press release.
“I’ve seen this organization and our systems grow over the years, and that would not have happened without the dedicated efforts of this team,” Nelson said in the release. “Our technologists are innovators and leaders in their fields; they deserve recognition for the work they do to support nearly every facet of NPR’s operations, and I’m proud to serve them all in this role.”
Nelson has also produced documentaries for public radio and the National Hockey League.
