NPR announced additions to its Washington Desk Monday as it prepares for the 2018 election season.

Deirdre Walsh will join NPR as Congress editor from CNN, where she is senior congressional reporter and producer.

Washington Desk Editor Brett Neely will head an NPR politics station collaboration initiative. In the role, Neely will work with stations on midterm elections coverage, with a focus on voting rights and election cybersecurity.

“He will help stations find commonalities across the states and elevate that coverage for national air and NPR.org,” said Beth Donovan, Washington Desk supervising senior editor, and Shirley Henry, deputy Washington editor, in the announcement.

National Desk reporter Sarah McCammon will join the White House team temporarily while Tamara Keith is on maternity leave.

The Washington Desk also added Barton Girdwood as a podcast producer.
