On Being, the public radio show about the big questions of human life, will be distributed by Public Radio Exchange, the show announced Tuesday. PRX will take over distribution from American Public Media as of July 1 and support the show with station marketing and a digital partnership.
“PRX is an entrepreneurial force in independent media, building strong relationships with public radio stations, producers, and diverse audiences,” said On Being host and executive producer Krista Tippett in a press release. “We are excited to pair our public service orientation and institutional nimbleness with theirs.”
Tippett created the show at APM in 2003 under the name Speaking of Faith. It transitioned to independent production through Krista Tippett Public Productions in 2013.
“MPR provided a vital home for this project to launch, find its voice and grow,” Tippett said in the release. “This idea would not have been welcomed with greater generosity anywhere else. MPR/APM will always have a foundational place in the self-understanding of On Being, and we hope to deepen our strong and ongoing broadcast partnership moving forward.”
The show airs on more than 400 public radio stations.
