Boston’s WBUR has joined Slate in producing a six-episode personal-health podcast, The Checkup.
Hosted by Carey Goldberg and Rachel Zimmerman, the authors of WBUR’s CommonHealth blog, the weekly 20-minute program has covered topics such as the psychological stress of college and women who feel pain during sex.
Both producers told the Nieman Journalism Lab that they hope to continue the series if the trial run gets a positive response. The series, offered as a free download through Slate’s podcast network on iTunes, isn’t airing on radio.
This is not Slate’s first partnership with a pubradio station. It and New York’s WNYC co-produce Gabfest Radio, an edited combination of the online magazine’s popular Political Gabfest and Culture Gabfest podcasts. Andy Bowers, e.p. of Slate’s podcast network, is a former NPR correspondent.
Slate’s design blog, The Eye, started featuring episodes of the Public Radio Exchange’s 99% Invisible podcast and radio show Sept. 12.
