KCLU in Thousand Oaks, Calif., has received a big financial boost in the form of a $1 million donation from a local couple.

The gift, announced Thursday, will go toward starting The Linda and Dennis Fenton KCLU Radio News Endowment, named after the donors. The endowment will help the station hire staff and improve equipment, production and programming, according to a press release.

The Fentons have been members of the California Lutheran University–owned station since 1994. Linda joined the station’s advisory board in March.

The couple moved to California in the 1980s to work for the now-multinational biotech company Amgen when it was a startup.
