The grants will benefit stations in seven states.
“Southwest Florida in Focus,” a half-hour of TV news for Fort Myers and beyond, launched as a cost-effective model for producing local coverage.
CEO John Lansing said the move will ensure NPR is “more united than ever in our efforts to strengthen our network and succeed in our mission to reach our current and future audiences wherever they consume NPR content.”
The audit raised questions among legislators about the state network’s procurement practices.
Begeny held the role of executive director of multimedia fundraising at WETA and co-hosted the show “If You Lived Here.”
“This is a bitter pill,” said Eric Marrapodi, VP of news programming. “We really wanted this to work. And this was a big, big swing to try to do this.”
CPB provided a $1.5 million grant backing expansion to newsrooms in all 50 states.
Anya Grundmann is leaving her role as SVP of programming for NPR.
Lovato-Winston, who currently works in fundraising for KPR, steps up to director next month.
