The “In the Dark” team will work with “New Yorker” reporters and editors to produce a new season of the show.
NPR will cut 10% of its staff, CEO John Lansing told employees.
“That face-to-face ability to learn and talk with each other is still very important,” said Kerry Swanson, president of Western States Public Radio.
Host Melissa Harris-Perry called the decision “an act of institutional cruelty and abuse” by WNYC executives.
The broadcaster is buying a station and translator from Educational Media Foundation.
“A cross-platform approach will be the tip of the spear of our evolution,” CEO Herb Scannell said.
As stress, workplace culture and other factors drive people out, stations increasingly struggle to find and keep staffers.
“Once recognized, we look forward to negotiating with management to ensure all eligible members are in-unit,” the employees said.
“I am rewiring more than retiring,” said Cutter, who plans to relocate to North Carolina.
The proposed unit would include 42 employees in both on-air and off-air roles.
“We are excited about the background skills and energy that Wayne will bring to Alabama Public Television.”
