Joseph Lee tapped to lead NJ PBS

Joseph Lee was appointed GM for NJ PBS, New Jersey’s statewide network.
Lee succeeds John Servidio, who is retiring from the station. Servidio became GM in 2011.
Lee’s first day with NJ PBS is Sept. 13. NJ PBS is operated by the WNET Group in New York City.
“I’m excited for Joe to be a part of NJ PBS,” said WNET CEO Neal Shapiro in a news release. “He brings deep knowledge of public media, fundraising experience and a love of journalism and community that will benefit our organization. Joe’s experience in digital and audio storytelling will be essential as NJ PBS continues to evolve into a multimedia, multiplatform provider.”
Shapiro also praised the outgoing GM, adding, “I will miss John Servidio, who guided NJ PBS and helped to make it the success it has become. I know that Joe will continue that legacy.”
Lee most recently worked as director and GM of WAER in Syracuse, N.Y. He was also PD, EP of the public affairs program Syracuse Speaks and producer for the podcasts Afro Futures and Pop Life. Before that, Lee led content development and management for WEAA in Baltimore.
In the news release, WNET credited Lee with shifting WAER from a music-oriented station to a multimedia group focused on journalism and community outreach.
