JoAnn Urofsky, GM of WUSF in Tampa, Fla., will retire in January.

Urofsky has led the station for more than three decades.
“My time at WUSF has been incredibly rewarding,” Urofsky said in a press release Tuesday announcing her retirement. “I am proud that our commitment to public service – building community through trusted journalism, classical music, jazz, and culture – has remained steadfast. As I step away, I’m confident this mission is in excellent hands with a new generation of talented leaders and innovators dedicated to serving the community through public media.”
Urofsky started in broadcasting as a DJ at a country music station. After moving to public broadcasting, she directed jazz music at West Virginia Public Broadcasting, served as PD at WAER in Syracuse, N.Y., and managed WSFP in Fort Myers, Fla.
During her career, Urofsky also served on the boards of NPR and PBS.
“The radio station provides an important service to our communities and JoAnn has always focused on ensuring it remains connected to the people of Florida,” said University of South Florida President Rhea Law in the release. “I also am a regular listener of WUSF and I am grateful for JoAnn’s many contributions and her leadership.”
