Science Friday has named Flora Lichtman as a new host, with founder Ira Flatow remaining as a host as well.

“Science Friday fans will be glad to know that Ira’s not going anywhere,” said Danielle D. Johnson, executive director of Science Friday, in a news release. “After thirty-three years, Ira wants to bring in another trusted voice and perspective to anchor the show. Together, Ira and Flora will continue to inspire and delight our audience with entertaining and educational stories about science, technology, and other cool stuff.”

Lichtman, who has served as guest host since 2010, is the creator and former host of the Gimlet Media–produced podcast Every Little Thing, which ran for five years and 200 episodes, the release said. Her other work includes having written for Netflix’s Bill Nye Saves the World and co-directing Animated Life, a New York Times Op-Docs video series.

“Over the past twenty years, in my career, what has mattered most to me is making science accessible, relatable and human,” Lichtman said in the release. “That’s what Science Friday is all about.”

Flatow founded Science Friday in 1991. The show aims to increase public access to science and scientific information.

Distributed by WNYC Studios, it airs on more than 500 radio stations in all 50 states, the release said.

“I am thrilled that Flora is joining me as Host,” Flatow said in the release. “Flora is already beloved by our audience for her thoughtful insights, humor, and energy. She embodies the relentless curiosity, fun, and intellectual rigor that is foundational to our show.”
