White began in the role at the jazz station July 1. He replaces Candy Capel, who retired.

“My plans at WVAS are to continue its effort at upgrading and modernizing its equipment and to continue its outreach to the greater community that it serves because we, the radio station, belong to the community,” he said in a press release.

Prior to joining WVAS, White most recently worked as a reporter for The Black Information Network. He was also news director for WEAA in Baltimore and a senior news correspondent at WVAS, according to his LinkedIn profile.

White said in the release that the move brings his career “full circle.” He volunteered at the station while a student at the university.

“Now, I come back as the manager of the now 39-year-old station, which has grown into being an integral part of the community’s musical repertoire,” he said.
