Wayne Reid will take over as executive director of Alabama Public Television, the station announced Thursday.
Reid will begin leading the organization Feb. 1. He succeeds Roy Clem, who retired in December 2019. Alabama Public Television CFO Phil Hutcheson has served as interim executive director since Clem’s retirement. Hutcheson will remain at the organization as CFO and attorney.
“We are excited about the background skills and energy that Wayne will bring to Alabama Public Television, including his experience in commercial broadcasting,” said Ferris Stephens, chairman of the Alabama Educational Television Commission, in a press release. The commission holds APT’s license.
“His overall background suits him well to help the Commission carry out its statutory responsibilities and take the network to a new level for the people of Alabama,” Stephens added. “We are extremely pleased to welcome Wayne as the leader of public television in the state.”
Reid has more than 25 years of experience in commercial television. He currently works as general sales manager at ABC 33/40 in Birmingham, Ala.
