WUNC in Chapel Hill, N.C., unveiled a new contemporary music stream Thursday.
Branded as WUNC Music, the 24/7 stream of Triple A music is featured on its website and an HD subchannel.
“We’ve been dreaming about this for years, and it’s thrilling to see it finally launch,” said WUNC Program Director David Brower on the local Morning Edition broadcast Thursday.
The station said the stream will focus on indie rock and related styles and a deliver a helping of local and North Carolina artists. According to Radio Insight, the station will run “mostly jockless for now, but will feature special pop-ins.”
Artists that aired on the stream Friday included North Carolina natives Sylvan Esso and The Avett Brothers, as well as other artists such as Wilco and Neil Young.
