The McLaughlin Group, one of public television’s longest-running public affairs programs, will end this weekend.
Host John McLaughlin died Tuesday at age 89. His program, presented by WTTW in Chicago, had aired since 1982.
John Roberts, a longtime consulting producer with McLaughlin’s company Oliver Productions, told Variety that McLaughlin had said to him several years ago, “What would be so wrong if when I finish up I just turn the lights out?”
The panel is expected to tape a final half-hour show Friday. An hourlong retrospective is planned for a later date.
