WGBH in Boston has hired nonprofit business executive André Alexander as its new chief financial officer.

Alexander succeeds Vinay Mehra, who left the major public TV producing station last month to become c.f.o. of Politico in Washington, D.C. Mehra had worked at WGBH since 2008.

Most recently, Alexander served as interim c.f.o. at Robert Half Finance & Accounting in Washington, D.C. His previous experience includes a year as c.f.o. at the Special Olympics, where he implemented new financial and accounting processes across the organization’s 170 worldwide offices, according to WGBH.

Alexander also served as c.f.o. at the Corporation for Economic Development, the Jane Goodall Institute, Fenton Communications and the Human Rights Campaign.

He begins work at WGBH Monday.
