- The FCC has granted nearly 500 low-power FM (LPFM) applications so far, according to Radio Survivor. Applicants include animal advocacy groups, schools, colleges, churches, tribal entities and arts organizations.

Franklin’s popular web series is coming to broadcast early in 2015.
- Austin’s KLRU-TV is producing a documentary series about barbecue culture with local meat legend Aaron Franklin. Called BBQ With Franklin, the show will be based on KLRU’s web series of the same name, which the station launched in 2012 for PBS Digital Studios. The program will air in early 2015 and be made available through national distribution. KLRU has lined up digital-coupon outlet RetailMeNot as the show’s first sponsor.
- Maine Public Broadcasting will not televise a March 1 high-school basketball championship due to a disagreement with local Time Warner Cable and trustees of the Cumberland County Civic Center, home to the Class A match. The pubcaster has aired the championships for 35 years.
- The digital financial media company The Street is reupping its sponsorship of Nightly Business Report. Backing will cover 62 episodes over three months, from Dec. 30 through March 31, 2015. The weeknightly pubTV program has been produced by CNBC since its ownership change in February 2013.
