The owner of MHz Networks’ WNVC and WNVT sold the stations’ spectrum in last year’s FCC auction.
Commonwealth Public Broadcasting Corp. in Richmond was a big winner among pubcasters in the FCC’s spectrum auction.
WVPT’s licensee approved the merger “to strengthen its operational and strategic position moving forward.”
Commonwealth Public Broadcasting Corp. will invest the $182 million in expanded community service and a foundation to “promote public media.”
The stations air a mix of international programming, including some locally produced shows.
