Modern Gardener is a digital series produced by KUED that celebrates the people, organizations and communities committed to helping gardeners in the states unique region. The series debuted in June of 2017 offering the community information about Utah’s unique climate, providing efficient and effective ways for local gardeners to plant and grow their gardens successfully.
Utah has a dry, continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. From an alpine environment to desert, the plant zones in Utah range from 4 in the northeast to 8 in the southwest. Because of the unique landscape and the need for water conservation many people struggle finding solutions to their growing issues with the knowledgeable resources available. Modern Gardner was born out of the need for an accessible knowledge center where community members could learn tips and tricks for growing efficiently and effectively in Utah from other passionate community members.
The series highlights organizations specializing in outdoor gardens (Red Butte Garden, Thanksgiving Point), local growers and farmers, gardening and landscaping for Utah’s culture and climate.
