PBS SoCal cuts 10% of workforce

PBS SoCal in Los Angeles laid off 10% of staff last month, amounting to 10 positions across the organization.

“Over the past several months, we have carefully reviewed our operations and made strategic decisions to ensure the organization’s long-term sustainability,” said spokesperson Allison Gray in an email. “We are deeply grateful to each of our colleagues for their contributions to our mission. PBS SoCal remains focused on building a sustainable public media organization, strengthening our digital capabilities and continuing to serve as a leading contributor within the PBS system.”

The announcement follows the vote in Congress this summer to rescind fiscal year 2026 and 2027 federal funding to CPB.

Gray said PBS SoCal “has been directly impacted by the loss of federal funding, in our case $4.3 million. While our community has stepped up in meaningful ways since the rescission, that generosity has not been enough to fully close the gap.”

PBS SoCal brought in revenue of around $49.2 million in fiscal year 2024, according to financial documents.

Their phone is disconnected, get a fast busy signal. that will save money
100 people for that building seems like the need a small office that would save millions of dollars
