All Classical Radio in Portland, Ore., has named longtime Performance Today host Fred Child its next president and CEO.

Suzanne Nance left the top role after 10 years with plans to become the executive director of the Wexford Festival Opera in Ireland. Greg Arntson has been interim CEO of All Classical Radio since July, according to a news release.

Child, who grew up in Portland, left American Public Media’s Performance Today in October after 25 years hosting the classical music show.  He will start his new job Jan. 2.

“It is a joy to return to my hometown of Portland and an honor to join this beloved institution,” Child said in the release. “All Classical Radio delivers essential culture as a free global resource, and does so with a team of uniquely talented personalities. Their creativity inspires me to envision what we can do together through our shared experience of great music, outstanding performances, and engaging storytelling.”

Child’s earlier roles include work at WNYC as a music director, director of cultural programming and host of a live daily performance and interview program, the release said. He also worked as a host at Oregon Public Broadcasting for a decade.

“Fred has been a leader in connecting music-makers with music-lovers, and advancing access to the arts with a passion and approach that is absolutely infectious,” All Classical Radio Board Chair Elaine Durst said in the release. “He brings an ambitious strategic vision for our arts network, guided by a deep understanding of and appreciation for public media.”
