CPB awards $750,000 grant for PMJA’s Editor Corps

CPB announced Wednesday that it has awarded the Public Media Journalists Association an additional $750,000 for its editor assistance program.
The four-year grant supports Editor Corps, which launched in 2020 to provide editing support for public media stations.
The grant is in addition to a two-year, $200,000 grant CPB announced in June. With the two grants, the program will be funded through 2031. CPB has invested nearly $1.3 million into the program since its launch.
“CPB has long championed an independent press as essential to our democracy,” said CPB CEO Patricia Harrison in a press release. “This funding builds on our longstanding support for public media newsrooms, ensuring they have the resources to respond to and serve their communities with timely, accurate, and relevant journalism that connects to people’s everyday lives.”
The program has assisted 68 stations with over 5,000 hours of help, according to the release.
The funding helps offset station costs. Editor Corps will continue to use a tiered fee structure based on station size and budget.
“PMJA is deeply gratified that CPB continues to recognize the value of the Editor Corps through this additional funding, allowing us to continue the program well into the future,” said Christine Paige Diers, executive director of PMJA, in the release. “We join the rest of the public media system in thanking CPB for continuing its commitment to local journalism and to the American public through this investment.”
