Nominations for three CPB board members have been returned to the president under a Senate rule.
President Joe Biden nominated Felix Sanchez in 2023 to fill a vacancy on the nine-member board. In November, he also nominated Adam White and Carol Kellermann as three other board members completed their terms.
However, a Senate rule requires that nominees who are not confirmed or rejected during the session in which they are nominated must be renominated by the president to be considered. The rule also applies if the Senate adjourns or takes a recess for more than 30 days.
The president can resubmit the nominees or propose new candidates, according to the Congressional Research Service. A CPB spokesperson declined to comment for this story.
In December, the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation voted to report favorably on Sanchez and White.
Sanchez is a former Democratic campaign strategist who chairs the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts. He previously served as a legislative assistant to the late Sen. Lloyd Bentsen of Texas.
White, a Republican, is a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. He was previously appointed by President Biden to the Presidential Commission on the Supreme Court of the United States.
Carol Kellermann’s resume includes serving as president of the Citizens Budget Commission, an independent watchdog that makes recommendations to the governments of New York City and New York state. In the early 1990s, she was chief of staff to then-Rep. Chuck Schumer.
CPB’s most recently departing directors include former Chair Bruce Ramer along with Miriam Hellreich and Kathy Im.
