“It has been an incredible privilege to lead Nashville Public Radio as it has enhanced its public service to this community,” Swenson said in the announcement. “I’m excited to watch the company’s next chapter and its continued growth.”

He plans to retire in late spring or early summer of this year, according to the announcement. He joined the station in 2019 from CBS Radio in Washington, D.C., where he was SVP and market manager.

“Steve was exactly what we needed six years ago to transform Nashville Public Radio into the trusted public news and music source that Nashville deserves,” Neil Thorne, the station’s board chair, said in the announcement. “With his team, he has positioned the organization to continue to grow and serve the city in exciting new ways. We wish him the very best in his retirement.”

During Swenson’s tenure, he switched the station’s 91.1 FM signal from classical to Triple A, added a one-hour daily show and grew news staff.
