Clark starts the job in February. She will succeed Robin Sparkman, founding CEO of StoryCorps, who was appointed president and co-CEO of ProPublica.

“Sandra’s vast experience, extraordinary leadership, strong moral core, and deep understanding of our nation and its media and social landscape make her the perfect person to serve as StoryCorps’ next CEO,” said Dave Isay, StoryCorps founder and president, in a news release.

Clark is currently VP of news and civic dialogue for WHYY in Philadelphia. She joined the station in 2016.

Before WHYY, Clark worked for The Philadelphia Inquirer for 20 years and was managing editor.

“StoryCorps is a national treasure with unlimited potential to grow and reach more diverse audiences across our great nation,” said Clark in the news release. “We are living through unprecedented times, and StoryCorps is well positioned to help heal the divisions by reminding us all of the power of empathy and our shared humanity.”
