Youth Radio/Media International is seeking an experienced Development Director who can grow and lead a development department, diversifying revenue sources while capitalizing on Youth Radio’s long history in public media. The Development Director will work closely with the Board, Executive Director, senior staff, and finance department, and supervise the work of development associates, grant writers and administrative interns in day-to-day operations. The Development Director will actively pursue established fundraising models/traditional sources of revenue within public broadcasting, including but not limited to: car donations, membership, events, sponsorship and underwriting. In addition, this position will supervise the development of traditional and nontraditional nonprofit revenue sources, including local and national foundations, government agencies and individual donors. YR/YMI is close to the completion of a $5 million capital campaign. The organization’s annual budget is currently $4 million. The successful candidate: Will be a strong communicator with a hands-on, solution-oriented approach. Will possess strong leadership skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Will demonstrate knowledge of strategy and practices associated with individual giving, corporate giving, private foundation, and public-sector fundraising. Will possess a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in nonprofit development, finance and/or communication activities. Key responsibilities: Initiate expanded fundraising efforts with an emphasis on traditional public media sources, as noted above. Working with the Board, Executive Director and the Finance Department, produce an annual fundraising plan. Research and identify funding prospects. Write and submit proposals and reports; oversee department staff in the writing of foundation and government proposals. Oversee department staff in the development and execution of direct-mail and online fundraising campaigns.Excellent interpersonal skills; high integrity; ability to work both independently and within a team environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of fundraising database software-Donor Perfect, Grant Wave or Raiser’s Edge.
