In spring 2019, the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism announced it would cease publishing Voices of New York, which launched just after September 11, 2001 and had been housed at the J-school since.
Without any funding in hand but feeling the loss of Voices would be a tear in the city’s fabric, City Limits took the project on and relaunched it in September 2019. Since then, we have published 121 articles, including some of the earliest coverage of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the city’s Chinese communities, how Latino communities were navigating the president’s anti-immigrant agenda and how rising commercial rent was affecting Polish shops in Greenpoint.
