Mia’s Gift

Mia, in collaboration with her Tlingit Language teacher and other language students, used KSTK studios to record, edit and produce her Mia’s Gift podcast. The Tlingit language is a Southeast Alaska indigenous language that is not extinct but is in a critical state. Mia’s goal is to preserve the language and culture through this podcast and radio module. Mia teaches the language using a mix of traditional story telling, local history and use of everyday place names, animal and plant names that are common to the local Southeast Alaska area. Mia is a high school student who is actively preserving a culture. KSTK provided the studio and technical assistance with editing and producing.
