In conjunction with the 2013 release of the PBS series, Makers: Women Who Make America, WCNY decided to create the Central New York Makers Awards to honor women making contributions to their communities. In the inaugural year, we invited nominations that are helping shape their communities in various categories such as medicine, sports, arts, business, community activism, science and technology and more.
Due to its proximity to Seneca Falls, NY, the birthplace of women’s rights, WCNY held the award ceremony at the Women’s Rights National Historical Park. The ceremony program elements have varied from historic recreators to short video and guest speakers but the core of the program is profiling the stories of the winners and inviting them to receive their awards.
