Mark Brewer, GM of WOUB Public Media in Athens, Ohio, has resigned after working for the station for more than 26 years.

News of Brewer stepping down was first reported by the station Monday. The station had previously reported that Brewer was placed on paid administrative leave in October pending an internal investigation by Ohio University, which holds WOUB’s license.
A university spokesperson declined to discuss the investigation involving Brewer because the university does not comment publicly on personnel matters.
“I’m thankful for Mark’s many positive contributions to WOUB throughout his time and wish him well in his next steps,” said Scott Titsworth, dean of the university’s Scripps College of Communication, in a statement to Current.
WOUB reported that it was unable to confirm additional details but that the investigation involved station employees as witnesses. and did not include criminal allegations. Brewer could not be reached for comment.
WOUB CTO Stephen Skidmore has been working as interim GM since Brewer was placed on leave. Titsworth is stepping down as dean at the end of this school year, according to WOUB’s reporting, and a future dean will decide “when or whether a permanent replacement will be hired.”
Brewer joined WOUB in 1999 as director of television programming and outreach, according to his LinkedIn page. He became CCO in 2001, COO in 2014 and GM in 2016.
WOUB announced staff cuts in January. At the time, WOUB reported that the station was anticipating less funding from Ohio University.
