Thompson starts the job April 3. She succeeds Greg Catlin, who retired from the organization last year. Brian Frey, director of operations, served as interim CEO during the transition.

“Natasha Thompson is well known and highly respected in both the nonprofit and commercial world in our region,” said WSKG Board Chair Allen Buyck in a news release. “Her track record of success and wealth of experience in organizational leadership, fundraising, and building community partnerships is the perfect skill set for our organization.”

Thompson has been president and CEO of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier since 2008. The organization was named Food Bank of the Year in 2017 by Feeding America. She led a $5.75 million capital campaign in 2009 that paid for a new headquarters in Elmira Heights, according to the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin.

From 2018–21, Thompson hosted Chasing the Dream, a WSKG public affairs series that focused on poverty in the region.

“WSKG is a tremendous local media & educational resource and a vital part of the fabric of our community, helping us make sense of the world and our place in it,” Thompson said in a news release. “I am honored to join the team and look forward to working closely with the staff and board of trustees to help chart the next phase of its evolution.”

It’s so sad that the quality of programming has fallen so drastically. I do hope that someone can improve what is available. It’s disheartening.

I am so impressed with what Natasha Thompson has done with WSKG. I am really excited that there is more reporting on local areas, especially in Corning and Elmira. I hope that the difficult financial picture that seems to be forming now will not discourage the wonderful programming that I so love to listen to!
