Comings and goings: CPB promotes Donna Joe to EVP, WTVP appoints CDO …

CPB promoted Donna Joe to EVP and general counsel.

Joe succeeds Evan Slavitt, who left the position to become general counsel for the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law.
Joe joined CPB in 2009 as senior business affairs attorney. She has also been senior director, VP and assistant general counsel, and most recently VP and deputy general counsel.
“I’m honored to continue serving CPB and the public media system in this new capacity,” Joe said in a news release. “Public media plays an essential role in ensuring universal access to trusted, fact-based information, local storytelling, and educational content, and I look forward to continuing my longstanding support for that mission.”
“Donna brings exceptional judgment, integrity, and a deep understanding of CPB’s mission,” said CPB President Pat Harrison in the release. “Her steady leadership and legal expertise have been invaluable to CPB, particularly during a period of extraordinary challenge and transition.”
WTVP in Peoria, Ill., hired Audrey Kamm as CDO.

Kamm most recently served as a development adviser with the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, working in Iowa and central and southern Illinois.
Before that, she was executive director of the Midwest Food Bank’s Peoria branch and VP of operations for the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce. Other leadership roles include program director for the Peoria-based CEO Council and program director of Young Professionals of Greater Peoria.
“Audrey’s expertise in nonprofit fundraising and commitment to the community uniquely suit her for this role and align perfectly with our mission to inspire and connect the communities of central Illinois through commercial-free, quality content that educates, informs, and entertains,” said WTVP CEO Jenn Gordon in a news release.
Development

Cory Dorathy was hired as corporate support manager for WVTF in Roanoke, Va. She previously worked as strategic account manager for Nexstar Media Group, marketing and community manager for City Space in Roanoke, senior account manager for Effectv and account executive for Comcast Spotlight.
Engineering

Beckett Kernmount was hired as broadcast operator for PBS Reno in Nevada. Kernmount most recently worked as project lead and educator for Nevada County Media. “I am beyond honored to work and provide for PBS Reno,” Kernmount said in a news release. “This organization has given me and many others invaluable entertainment and resources that have enriched our lives. This is an amazing opportunity to utilize my media skills to provide a public service to the next generation and for many years to come.”

Yia Vang is leaving his position as host of Relish, a food and culture series produced by TPT in St. Paul, Minn. Vang has hosted the program since it launched in 2019. “Relish embodies what public media does best: uplifting authentic stories, building connections and celebrating diversity through the power of food,” TPT CCO Nick Kereakos said in a news release. “We’re deeply grateful to Yia for his contributions and excited to build on this incredible foundation as we look ahead to an exciting future for the show.” While TPT searches for the program’s next host, it is developing a limited series for 2026 that will feature a mix of chefs who have appeared on the program.

Darren Revell’s music program Big Sonic Heaven, which showcases shoegaze, dream pop, Britpop, trip hop and electronic music, will return to the airwaves this month on WDET in Detroit. Revell’s radio program was first introduced to Detroit listeners in 1995 and left commercial airwaves in 2003. It was revived for Los Angeles radio from 2007–09 and has also been an online-only program. Big Sonic Heaven will replace Sunday-night rebroadcasts of Don Was Motor City Playlist and Sound Opinions.
Fellowships

Katerina Barton is the 2025 recipient of the Above the Fray Fellowship, jointly awarded by NPR and the John Alexander Project. As part of the international reporting program, Barton will travel to Indonesia and spend two months reporting on the environment, climate change and the country’s role in the global energy transition, according to NPR. Barton is currently a freelance producer and audio editor for StoryCorps. She has held several positions at WNYC in New York City, including associate producer roles for The Takeaway and On the Media.
Governance
Nathan Moore, GM of WTJU in Charlottesville, Va., and Sharon Maeda, former executive director of Pacifica Radio, are leaving their positions as board members for the National Federation of Community Broadcasters. Moore joined the board in 2017, and Maeda joined the board in 2019.
