APT cancels in-person Fall Marketplace conference, shifts to teleconference

American Public Television is canceling its 2025 APT Fall Marketplace that was scheduled to convene in November. The program distributor will instead host a teleconference that month.

“After careful consideration and discussion with some of our stations, producers and partners, we have made the decision to cancel the 2025 Fall Marketplace meeting,” wrote APT CEO Jim Dunford in an email newsletter announcing the decision.

Dunford said he had been looking forward to the Nov. 3-5 gathering, which was to be held at the Hilton Boston Park Plaza Hotel near APT’s headquarters.

APT’s Syndication and Exchange services will have “a rich set of offers planned for fall, which will be shared in a November teleconference,” Dunford said in his note. “We will also create other opportunities throughout the year for connecting colleagues, sharing learnings and promoting content. As I have said before, APT has not stopped working to be the mission-driven, function-focused partner to help stations and producers succeed.”

According to a webpage for the conference that’s been removed from APT’s website, which was last captured by the Internet Archive June 25, prospective attendees were also invited to arrive Nov. 2 to attend the Public Television Programming Association Fall Meeting.

Jill Linder, PTPA board president, said in an email that the association is also canceling its in-person meetings and will announce details about upcoming virtual events at a later date. Linder is director of video programming and operations for KPBS in San Diego.

“PTPA remains committed to providing professional development opportunities this fall,” Linder wrote in the email to PTPA members. “We will transition to a virtual format and continue to support our community of programmers.”

In his note, APT’s Dunford said people who have already paid registration fees for Fall Marketplace by credit card will be refunded automatically. Registration for the APT Fall Marketplace first opened July 10, a little more than a week before Congress moved to zero out CPB funding in fiscal years 2026 and 2027.
