Ronnie Agnew, GM for WOSU Public Media since January, is leaving the university-licensed station serving Columbus, Ohio.
Chief Development Officer Laura Baker and Mary Alice Akins, director of business operations, have been named interim co-leaders for the station effective Oct. 29.
In a statement, Baker said Agnew “has decided to pursue what he describes as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join a major multi-billion-dollar media company as both a GM and senior leader. We thank him for his service and wish him well on this new role.”
He starts the new job sometime next month, Agnew told Current in an email. He declined to share details until the company announces his appointment.
Before joining WOSU earlier this year, Agnew led Mississippi Public Broadcasting for more than a decade.
Agnew has served on PBS’ board of directors. He also served as board chair for America’s Public Television Stations and American Public Television.
I’m looking at my current WOSU airfare magazine and noticed that Ronnie Agnew isn’t listed as the general manager. I thought he’d recently assumed that position and was wondering what happened…and that led to this article. So, what’s the real story. What really happened?
Hi Steve — Ronnie left WOSU in October to become GM of NJ Advance Media, a subsidiary of Advance Publications. More details here: https://current.org/2022/10/comings-and-goings-pbs-board-reelects-larry-irving-as-chair-kpcc-laist-hires-vp-of-programming/
